Telling and safeguarding the ZESSTA experience

Over the past three years (2015 – 2018), the British Council has supported Zambia’s Ministry of General Education (MoGE) with Technical Assistance under the Zambia Education Sector Support Technical Assistance (ZESSTA) facility. Funded through both UKAid and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), and delivered by the British Council, ZESSTA was tasked with enhancing MoGE’s capacity to deliver quality education across a broad range of areas.

ZESSTA supported the Ministry of General Education in the following workstreams:

  • Public financial management
  • Sector-wide human resource management
  • Institutional leadership and management
  • Information/ knowledge management and communications
  • Education management information systems
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Evidence-based planning
  • Teacher education
  • Implementation of the revised curriculum
  • Assessment systems

Listen to a podcast that celebrates the positive strides made by the Ministry with ZESSTA support, named ‘Green shoots of growth in the education sector’.  You can also read the ZESSTA legacy blog on the Global Partnership for Education website.

“The contribution that ZESSTA is making is truly excellent. Tangible results have already been seen in the first 11 months that you have provided technical assistance to the Education Sector.”  Former Director of Planning and Information, Ministry of General Education

The ZESSTA facility is now closed, should you have any queries about ZESSTA please send your query to info@britishcouncil.org.zm

The ZESSTA team has also developed a legacy pack to secure greater sustainability of the initiative and so that all stakeholders can learn from the experience and build on it for future technical assistance:
